This report will be about John Bowlby and his theory of attachment plus criticisms and how these come into effect in practice and legislation. Edward John Mostyn Bowlby was born February 27th 1907 and died September 2nd 1990. He was born in London to a middle class family. He was mostly taken care of by his nanny because his parents believed that spending too much time with him could lead to him becoming a spoilt child. At age 7 he was sent to boarding school by his parents. After finishing boarding school Bowlby went on to study psychology at Trinity College in Cambridge and worked with delinquent children. Once he graduated from Trinity he volunteered at a school and worked with two unstable children which inspired him to become a child psychiatrist. After this he went on to study medicine at University College Hospital then psychiatry at Maudsley Hospital. Bowlby also studied at the British Psychoanalytic Institute and was initially influenced by Melanie Klein but later became dissatisfied with her work. He became a psychoanalyst in 1937, after this he joined the army and served in World War 2(WW2) in the Royal Army Med ical Corps. Once WW2 was over Bowlby became the director of the Havistock Clinic and then in 1950 after one of his papers was published he become a mental health consultant for the World Health Organisation. Snow Storm Baby The year was 1992; a cold December arctic wind had brought a chance of snow to the area. It was the weekend and time to relax after a long hard week at work. The weather service had predicted several inches of snow to blanket the region by the next day. Not to worry: it was the weekend and traveling was not a necessity. At the time, my wife Jeanne was pregnant with our soon-to-be daughter Tahlyn. We had waited eight long months for her to arrive, and finally her due date was getting closer and closer. Aileen Wuornos killed a total of seven men along Florida highways between November 1989 and November 1990. Wuornos was one of the few female serial killers that was captured January 9, 1991, trialed and executed by the state of Florida in 2002 by the Lethal Injection. After the move with her grandparents, her grandfather became emotionally, sexually and physically abusive towards her and kicked her out the house at a very young age. The life experiences that Wuornos went through cause her to live a lifestyle that  was available to her at all times. Which caused her to become a criminal and survive by be being a prostitute because that is all she knew. The Social Control Theory predicts that Wuornos life experiences may have caused her to become a serial killer. Wuornos gave birth to a baby boy at the age of 14, after being impregnated by her grandfather in which she gave him up for adoption. She dropped out of school and her grandmother died due to liver failure from drinking alcoholic beverages throughout the years. Shortly after she was kicked out of the house at the age of 15 years old where she had to support herself and the only way she knew to survive was encountering in sexual deviance. Wuornos fell into a similar pattern of defiance that she inherited from her family.
